AKEL message to Fidel Castro on his birthday
The General Secretary of the C.C. AKEL Andros Kyprianou sent yesterday a letter to the historical leader of Cuba com. Fidel Castro on his 90th birthday. The main part of the letter follows below:
“Dear Comrade Fidel,
On behalf of the Central Committee of AKEL, and myself personally, I convey our warmest wishes on your 90th birthday.
Today, on your 90th birthday, you can be sure that History has vindicated the Revolution and its leadership. Cuba, against all difficulties and the attacks it is facing, remains unyielding and a beacon of inspiration for every struggling people throughout the world. The gains and achievements of the Revolution are an example for the peoples and workers in every country of the world. Your personal contribution to all these gains and achievements will be ineradicable. History has vindicated you, as it is daily vindicating those who have chosen the path of dignity and struggle for the socialist future of the world.
The fact that the United States were forced to change their tactics towards your country represents an important victory for the people and leadership of Cuba. We all know, however, that US imperialism has not changed its objectives. That’s why, AKEL is not complacent with regards the developments in Cuba-US relations and will continue to be resolutely in solidarity with Cuba. We will continue to join our voice with Cuba demanding the termination of the US inhumane blockade, for the closing down of the Guantanamo hellhole and the return of its territory to Cuba and combating of the attempts to undermine the Revolution.
Dear Comrade Fidel,
From distant Cyprus we send you our warmest wishes for good health and happiness. On this occasion, we address a militant comradely greeting to the members and leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba and the entire Cuban people.”
