Government fails to implement a comprehensive development strategy

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 29th July 2016, Nicosia

econ austerity 1The implementation of the developmental budget continues to be at very low levels in 2016 too. In the first half of 2016, the implementation of the developmental budget has not exceeded even 25% of the total estimated expenditure.

The Government should stop invoking fiscal rigidity and give explanations for the failure to implement a comprehensive development strategy to improve working people’s living standards. It is clear that there are available resources for development, however they remain unused because of the inadequacy, but also because of the nonexistence of planning.

As AKEL, we consider that the state in times of crisis should play a leading role in promoting development and growth. Unfortunately, the Government has been shown to be reluctant to implement even the leanest budgets it itself has drawn up.
