AKEL on developments in Turkey

AKEL expresses its concern regarding the situation in Turkey. We hope that political normality prevails soon in the country because the developments in Turkey affect our wider region accordingly.
The situation in Turkey inevitably affects Cyprus as well, given that Turkey illegally occupies a large part of Cypriot territory and illegally maintains thousands of troops in the northern occupied part.
Irrespective of our numerous assessments and strong views about the policies being implemented by Mr. Erdogan and the current Turkish government, our position is that the principles of democracy and people’s will must prevail in Turkey.
