Government machinations promoting privatisations exposed
Statement of Eleni Mavrou, AKEL Political Bureau member
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 10th October 2015, Nicosia
As it has already been announced, the Minister of Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism Georgos Lakkotrypis and the Commissioner for Privatization Konstantinos Herodotus recently participated in presentations abroad on the pretext of attracting investment, in which they promoted the privatizations of Semi-governmental organizations.
The government and ruling forces no longer hide their impatience to sell off public assets and property.
As AKEL, we consider that these initiatives go beyond the responsibilities and powers of the Minister, especially if one considers that a study on the optimal way of the semi-governmental Cyprus Electricity Authority’s operation is still pending about which incidentally criticism is already being made that it is “guided”.
The actions of the two government officials confirm that the government and ruling forces have directed their ideological obsessions into a spearhead of their policy without calculating the enormous damage they will cause to the country.
