Commission Document leaves Government-DISY hopelessly exposed
Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 6th March 2015, Nicosia
The document of the European Commission that was made public today registers yet another truth that has left the Anastasiades government and the governing DISY Rally party hopelessly exposed. The fact that the Government rejected the Commission’s alternative proposals that wouldn’t have included the haircut on insured bank deposits of up to 100,000 Euros came as no surprise whatsoever if one considers all that everyone already knows.
It is evident that the Anastasiades government defended to the very end its own proposal for a haircut/levy on all the bank deposits, a position which it continues to uphold even today, in the midst of course of serious contradictions. It even stopped so low as to hide from the House of Representatives that the initial decision of the Eurogroup had been withdrawn, a fact which – besides the statement made by Draghi – is also registered in the relevant Report.
