Message of the Central Committee of AKEL on the 90th anniversary of the Lebanese Communist Party
The Central Committee of AKEL sends fraternal greetings to the Lebanese Communist Party, its members and friends with the occasion of its 90th anniversary.
The Lebanese Communist Party and AKEL share mutual struggles within our region. Our peoples have suffered from colonial rule, imperialist interventions, sectarian and nationalistic aggression and civil wars. Passing through years of illegality, persecution and oppression our Parties have managed at the end of the day to grow as political entities with decisive role in our societies in the framework of the struggles for the sake of the working people. Both Parties have maintained their role as to safeguard the unity of the people beyond any religious and ethnic divisions created by the imperialist factor and the actions of nationalist and chauvinist forces. It is very important that LCP until today is the only Party in Lebanon that has a clear and concrete political position for a new Lebanese electoral system that will guarantee the unity of the state and the people.
The Lebanese Communist Party has always been affected by the turmoil in the Palestinian territories caused by the expanding aggression of Israel facilitated by the imperialist interests. LCP and the Lebanese people have assisted the long-term struggle of the Palestinians for liberation, independence and establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Furthermore, LCP played an essential role in the confrontation of the Israeli invasion in Lebanon in 1982 by the creation of the “Lebanese Patriotic Resistance Front” that liberated the country from the invading troops. The role of LCP and LPRF on the Palestinian cause is essential until nowadays.
Today, another creation of the imperialist forces “The Islamic state” is becoming a threat for the peoples of the region since it invades in several countries, including Lebanon, looking forward at establishing a fundamentalist and obscurantist empire. ISIS is nothing more than a monster generated by the ruins of the US invasion in Iraq and its consequences as well as by the funding of US and Arab states to fundamentalist groups that preceded ISIS aiming at overthrowing President Assad’s government in Syria. Today, paradoxically the same imperialist forces are returning back to the region for “liberating” the peoples from the monster that they have created. In this context, the Communist and Workers Parties must stand united at orientating the struggle against terrorism and war for the sake of the peoples of the region.
AKEL is in solidarity with the Lebanese people to their struggle for defending themselves from ISIS and the new imperialist threat. Moreover, we are in solidarity with the Iraqis, Kurds and Syrians that are greatly affected at the moment by this threat.
AKEL supports the peaceful struggle against the implementation of the USA forged “New Middle East” project. This scheme is divisive and destructive for the peoples and countries of the region.
The capitalist system rises its aggression more than ever. In this context, the international solidarity of the Communist and Workers Parties is urgent. The communists around the world must be in the forefront of the defense of the peoples against this great attack.
We are certain that your Party is today recalling its 90 years of history full of pride considering the long-term struggles taken place under great difficulties for the sake of the working class and the oppressed people of Lebanon and the peoples of the world. The 90th anniversary of your Party is a significant commemoration event and a milestone of a dialectic analysis towards the path to the future. We are looking forward to the further enhancement of the relations of our two Parties.
