Solidarity with the Communist Party of Ukraine

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 24th April 2014, Nicosia

CP Ukraine

AKEL denounces the coup d’état government of Ukraine for its scheming to outlaw the Communist Party of Ukraine. This is the same government that is invoking the European Union to promote its fascist methods. The Government’s secret services have seized and distorted his archives of the Communist Party of Ukraine, whilst they have allowed the burning of the building of the Party’s Central Committee. The C.C. of AKEL expresses its solidarity with the CP of Ukraine which is struggling with consistency against the fascist forces that are active in the streets, in parliament, but also in the unelected government of the country.

AKEL notes that the government of the country is mainly responsible for the volatile situation, given that the political persecution of the Russian population it is carrying out it is fuelling secessionist trends.

AKEL notes with concern the concentration of NATO troops in the Baltic region and the holding of military exercises that exacerbate the climate of uncertainty and interventionism.
Ukraine is under siege in Kiev by the extreme-right wing forces, whilst the seizures in the southeast of the country are continuing. This condition must be terminated. The people should express its will through political and democratic means and the U.S. and EU should stop the policy of double standards. The Geneva Agreement must be fully implemented.
