AKEL delegation concludes its contacts in Moscow

The delegation of AKEL today concluded its contacts in Moscow and returned to Cyprus.

Today the delegation met with the President of the “Fair Russia” Party Sergey Mironov, and Valentine Kouptsov, former Deputy President of the Russian Duma.

During the meeting with the President of the “Fair Russia” Party Sergey Mironov, the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL informed his interlocutor about the latest developments on the Cyprus problem and the discussion he had with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergey Lavrov. The GS of AKEL called for the support of the “Fair Russia” party to the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem on the basis of the principles of the United Nations. The General Secretary of AKEL went on to analyse the state of the Cyprus economy and called for the support of the Russian Federation to be continued. On his part, the President of the “Fair Russia” Party Sergey Mironov expressed his Party’s support to the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem. Referring subsequently to the Cyprus economy, Mr. Mironov referred extensively to the shock caused to Russian society as a result of the decisions taken by the Eurogroup and the Cypriot government in March 2013. In conclusion, he informed the AKEL delegation thoroughly about his party’s position regarding the developments in Ukraine and on the issue of Crimea.

At the meeting with Valentine Kouptsov, the AKEL delegation discussed the same issues.

The delegation of AKEL consisted of Andros Kyprianou, General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL, Demetris Christofias, former President of the Republic of Cyprus and Marina Savva, Head of the Office of the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL.
