Cyprus’ signing of the resolution on Ukraine could be harmful to our national cause

UN

The signing by Cyprus of the draft resolution on the Ukraine constitutes an action that can prove to be harmful to our country and its national cause. The Russian Federation has always stood on the side of the Republic of Cyprus and continues to follow steadfastly a principled policy on the Cyprus problem. Indeed, on many occasions the Russian Federation acted in support of and salvaged our country’s and people’s vital interests.

We strongly believe that that the Republic of Cyprus should have remained neutral, regardless of the pressures that were evidently exerted on the Cyprus government by the Europeans and Americans. The government should have insisted until the very end and not signed the draft resolution, invoking our country’s vital interests. Besides, this is what all the EU member-states do in the event where their vital interests are affected. Moreover, these EU member states do not face a problem of occupation as Cyprus does.
