STATEMENT ON AKEL CENTRAL COMMITTEE SESSION

The Plenum of the Central Committee of AKEL convened today on 1st November 2013, which discussed two issues. First, the Plenary discussed the assessment of the Presidential elections, the evaluation of the previous administration and the perspectives ahead. Subsequently, it discussed the organization of a programmatic congress of the Party.

 

In the long session of the C.C. a fruitful, constructive dialogue and reflection was conducted on the basis of relevant documents submitted by the Political Bureau.

 

A document – proposal based on this reflection will be prepared that will be discussed in the ensuing period by the members of the Party in the Party Base Organisations.

 

The assessment of the Presidential Elections and of the five year administration, in a critical and self-critical spirit, has as its central goal the shielding and strengthening of the Party so that AKEL will be able to serve with the greatest possible effectiveness our people, the working people, and Cypriot society.

 

Within this framework, it has also decided to organize a programmatic congress. The congress will represent the political – ideological springboard for a decisive contribution to the Party’s effective response to the enormous challenges Cypriot society is facing and discuss vital issues that concern the Party itself.
