AKEL on conscious government policy for privatizations
Statement by George Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson
The government is proceeding today with yet another important step in selling off the profitable Semi-governmental organisations.
The people have for some time been following constant mix-up of statements by government officials and the ruling Democratic Rally party.
The people fully understand that the Anastasiades government has abandoned the election commitments made to the Cypriot people, workers in the Semi-governmental organisations and the coalition DIKO party from the very first days of the administration.
People also know very well the initial denial and the contempt shown by the ruling powers towards the political and dialogue to find other alternatives to avoid selling off of public wealth and property.
Consequently, even the most genuine critics of the government are fully aware that the promotion of privatization is a conscious policy decision and the decision of those in power, who insist on discrediting everything public and worship everything private.
Mostly, however, the government and ruling powers are aiming to continue to put the losses of the private banks on the backs of the people and surrender for next to nothing the profitable Semi-governmental organizations to big private interests, both local and foreign.
