Irene Charalambidou was born in 1964 in Limassol and lives in Nicosia. She is married to Andros Papapavlou and they have two children.

She studied Journalism in Greece and holds a degree in Psychology. She has been serving since 2011 as an MP with AKEL Left New Forces.

She is Deputy Chairwoman of the House Standing Committee on Development Plans and Public Expenditure Control, Member of the House Standing Committee on Health Affairs, of the House Standing Committee on Human Rights and on Equal Opportunities for Men and Women and of the House Standing Committee on Institutions, Merit and the Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman).

She is the Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. Since 2019 he is the Special Representative against corruption of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, a position she holds to this day.

She worked as a journalist in the newspaper “O Agon” and “Eleftherotypia” and has collaborated with the newspaper “Kirikas”. She also worked for Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation RIK (1987-1994 & 2002-2011), “Logos” TV (1994-1996) and “Antenna” TV (1998-2001).
