Andros Kyprianou was born in 1955 in Strovolos. He is married to Sofia Podina and they have two children.

He graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering of the Higher Technological Institute (ATI) in 1976. Two years later he was employed at the Higher Technological Institute, where he worked until 1988. He attended courses at the Pedagogical Institute and received further training in Rimini, Italy.

In January 2009, he was elected General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL and was re-elected by the 21st Party Congress in November 2010 and by the 22nd Congress in June 2015.

He has been a Member of Parliament with the AKEL Left New Forces since 2001 and since February 2008 he has been a member of the National Council.

In 1988 he became a full-time cadre of the C.C. of AKEL. Since 1990 he has been a member of the C.C. and since 1995 a member of the Political Bureau of the Party.

He was the Party Spokesperson (2003-2009) and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Labour and Social Security, as well as the Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs. In addition, he was the Head of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and in April 2008 was unanimously elected one of its Vice-Presidents.
