Meeting between the General Secretary of AKEL and the President of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group

The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, met today with the President of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group, Rena Dourou, at the Party’s Central Committee offices in Nicosia.
The General Secretary of AKEL briefed the President of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus problem, the consultations held by the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, aimed at creating the conditions for the resumption of negotiations from where they left off in 2017. The General Secretary of AKEL reiterated that, for AKEL, the sole basis for a solution of the Cyprus problem remains a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with political equality, and that the convergences that have been recorded and the entire negotiation acquis must be safeguarded.
The meeting also discussed issues of mutual interest, such as the situation in the wider region of the south-eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, the growing geostrategic challenges that are emerging, as well as the role of the Left plays in the current context.
