Statement by the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of AKEL

The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of AKEL convened today and made an initial assessment of the election results. There is a unanimous view that the strengthening of AKEL – Left – Social Alliance in the parliamentary elections of May 24 constitutes a major success that paves the way for the Left’s upward trajectory, for victorious struggles for society, for the people and for our homeland. The assessment of the election results will continue in the coming period at the level of the Party’s collective bodies, members and friends of AKEL and the Social Alliance.

The Political Bureau of Central Committee of AKEL also discussed the issue of the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and was briefed on the actions and contacts undertaken so far by the Party’s Central Secretariat. The Political Bureau approved the actions of the Central Secretariat. Discussions on the matter will continue at the level of the Party’s Central Committee, which will set out the framework for further actions and consultations.
