Israel’s raid on Lebanon is barbaric

Yesterday’s deadly Israeli invasion of Lebanon, which left hundreds of civilians dead and wounded and caused enormous material destruction, reaffirms yet again the criminal actions, brutality and the expansionism of the Israeli Netanyahu regime. The raid constitutes an escalation of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon that has been unfolding for weeks and is undermining the fragile ceasefire in the US – Israeli war being waged against Iran.
AKEL denounces the ongoing Israeli barbarity in Lebanon and throughout our region and expresses its unwavering solidarity with the people of Lebanon. We call once again for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement as the very least that should have been decided long ago in response to the massive war crimes being committed by Israel.
The Christodoulides government must, at the very least now, end its silence—a silence that serves to cover up the Netanyahu regime, which is slaughtering the Lebanese people, with whom the Cypriot people are bound by ties of friendship.
What else must happen to put an end to the Christodoulides government’s illusions about Israel and Netanyahu?
How much more blood must be shed before everyone realizes that the US and Israel not only offer no security whatsoever to Cyprus, but pose a danger to the entire region and our planet?
