We value, protect, respect and invest in nurses for a sustainable future for nursing and healthcare
AKEL on International Nurses Day
12 May 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office. Nicosia
On the occasion of International Nurses Day, AKEL expresses its respect and appreciation to nurses for their professional dedication in providing services and health care to people and society.
Nurses are an important factor in the effort to upgrade the quality of life, health and care services provided. For that reason, the Government must take all the necessary measures to provide all-round support of nurses.
Government policy must focus its strategy based on the recommendations issued by the World Health Organization and the International Council of Nurses, as well as the Professional Association of Nurses of Cyprus, in order to address the problem of the lack of nursing staff. It must also facilitate the work of nurses, through the assurance and implementation of the necessary legislative frameworks of the health system, so that they can provide quality, effective and cost-effective health care to citizens.
As AKEL has repeatedly stressed that the inadequate staffing and reduced budgets in Health in our country make the work of this large group of Health professionals more difficult, as well as of all health professionals and workers in public hospitals.
AKEL acknowledges the contribution of nurses to the promotion and improvement of the health of people and society in general, providing assistance and support in dealing with all the issues that concern them.
