Society is paying the cost of the government’s unforgivable incompetence in tackling the increases in electricity prices

Society is paying the cost of the government’s unforgivable incompetence in tackling the increases in electricity prices.
Despite the fact that the competent Minister attempted yesterday to shift the blame elsewhere, the fact remains that the Government has failed to do what should have been done so far to reduce the price of electricity.
Firstly, every year it was pledging that the natural gas would arrive and reduce production costs, but after eight years in power the Anastasiades government nothing has been done. Secondly, it has failed to effectively introduce renewable energy in the generation of power so that consumers could benefit from reduced prices. Thirdly, the result of the Government’s inaction is that society is being saddled with the penalty that Cyprus will pay for the increased pollutants it is producing.
The Government has a choice. Instead of blaming others, it should acknowledge the problem and do what should have been done long ago.
AKEL will discuss the issue again in Parliament and will insist until the reduction of electricity for society is put into practice.
