The possibility to acquire EU Digital Covid Certificates must be given to Turkish Cypriots too

AKEL on vaccination certificates for Turkish Cypriots

It is a fact that these days many of our Turkish Cypriot compatriots face problems travelling abroad due to the fact that in several countries the vaccination certificates they have received in the occupied territories are not recognised. They have of course the right to cross to the free areas with the same certificates.

As AKEL, we believe that the Republic of Cyprus must act to solve this problem. Towards this end, we propose that a procedure be established through which Turkish Cypriot citizens of the Republic of Cyprus can acquire the EU Digital Covid Certificate after presenting proof of their vaccination with a vaccine that has been approved by the EU.

Furthermore, we consider that to resolve the issues on health additional structures for intercommunal cooperation should be created on this issue. We therefore propose the creation of a Bicommunal Health Forum with the participation of agencies/organisations and experts from both communities to discuss and propose solutions to health issues that concern both communities on the island.
