Giorgos Koukoumas was born in 1983 in Larnaca and comes from the occupied village of Angastina and from the village of Avgorou in the free areas of Famagusta.
He is a graduate of the Athens Law School and holds an LLM Master’s Degree in Public International Law from the University of London.
He worked as a political advisor to an AKEL MEP with the responsibility of following the Foreign Affairs Committee AFET and Committee on Civil Liberties and Justice LIBE of the European Parliament. Today, he works in the AKEL Press Office and in the European Affairs and International Relations Bureau of the C.C. of AKEL.
He is a member of the C.C. of AKEL and the AKEL Famagusta District Committee and also participates in the Ideological Affairs and Immigration Policy Bureaus of the C.C. of AKEL. He has represented AKEL in numerous international and European conferences, as well as actions of the Group of the Left in the European Parliament. He is also a member of the Secretariat of the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association and a member of the Cyprus Humanist Association.
He was President of the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee of School Students (PSEM) (2000-2001), President of the National Student Union of Cyprus (EFEK) in Athens (2004-2005), President of the Progressive Movement of Cypriot Students in Athens (2005-2007) and member of the Central Council of EDON Youth Organisation.
