Giannakis Gabriel was born in 1961 in Famagusta and comes from Deryneia, where he lives. He is married to Chrystalla Ioannou and they one son and one daughter.
He graduated from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Wood Processing in Hungary and worked as a teacher in the field of Carpentry-Furniture (1996-2008).
He is a member of the C.C. of ΑΚΕΛ. In 2008 he was elected District Secretary of the Union of Cypriot Farmers (EKA) of the Famagusta district and since 2009 he is a member of the Secretariat of the Executive Council of EKA. Since 2017 he is the Regional Head of AKEL in the free area of Famagusta.
Since 2008 he has been a Member of Parliament for AKEL Left New Forces in the district of Famagusta. He was re-elected in 2011 and from October 2020 he resumed his duties assuming the vacant position as a runner-up MP. He is a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Communications and Works and the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Trade, Industry and Tourism. He is the Honorary President of the Pancyprian Confederation of Primary Education Parents’ Associations and the Pancyprian School of Parents.
He was Secretary of the EDON Youth Organisation of Deryneia, Secretary of the AKEL Deryneia Borough Committee, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources from 2011 to 2016 and a member of the Cyprus Potato Trade Council from 2016 to 2020.
