“Stop the Nazi Sabbat in Ukraine”
Statement of the parties attending the XXII Congress of AKEL
4 June 2015
News that come from Ukraine, cause increased concern to the world community. After the coup d’etat in 2014 a brutal totalitarian regime is installed in the country. The terror against opposition forces, especially the Communists and their supporters has being constantly intensifying.
Neo-Nazis – followers of the collaborators of the fascist occupants during World War II, came to power and in flagrant violation of the Ukrainian Constitution, international commitments to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, they organized the infamous trial against the Communist Party of Ukraine.
But over a one-year investigation and court trial have provided no evidence of any illegal activities of the party.
Under these circumstances criminal nationalistic forces imposed on the Parliament to adopt a set of laws on so-called “de-communization”, the purpose of which are to ban the communist ideology and symbols, to create a pseudo-legal basis for the prohibition of activities of the Communist Party and the glorification of Hitler collaborators. Any opposition is persecuted in Ukraine.
Workers are deprived of the last remnants of the social gains of the socialist era.
Misanthropic nationalist-chauvinist ideology is unconstitutionally imposed on society as an official or mandatory.
The economy has been brought is at the brink of default, with most of the population pushed under the poverty line.
The fratricidal civil war in the East of the country continues to cause enormous sacrifices, hardships and deprivation for millions of people.
The threat of collapse of the Ukrainian state is increasing.
However, the implementation of the Minsk agreements aimed to facilitate bringing the bloodshed to a stop, the settlement of the conflict basing on the legitimate interests of the residents of Donbass and other regions, is disrupted by the Ukrainian authorities.
The threat of serious escalation of armed conflict that could lead to full fledged war in which the states of Europe may become involved, is real.
In this situation, the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) has found nothing better than to suspend the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the European Social Charter (revised) in the territory of the conflict.
The Congress guests and participants strongly protest against the arbitrary, undemocratic actions of the Ukrainian authorities which constitute a violation of the Constitution and international obligations.
We demand the immediate repeal of the notorious “decommunisation” law – the persecution of the Communist Party of Ukraine, consistent defender of the interests of working people.
Hands off the Communist Party of Ukraine – a truly patriotic force of the Ukrainian people!
